you'll do:As the Staff Data Engineer II, you are accountable to
design, build, and implement critical components of the enterprise
data platform in accordance with the strategic data and analytics
needs of the Western Alliance Bank Regulatory Reporting strategy
and roadmap. This challenging role requires the best of your data
management, cloud data engineering and technology knowledge to
develop a cross-business unit data tier that is leveraged to
improve our regulatory reporting and analytics capabilities,
including the Large Financial Institution requirements. The Staff
Data Engineer II is a pioneer in our modern data platform working
directly with data analysts, data engineers, enterprise architects
and business stakeholders. Embedded in the Enterprise Data &
Analytics function, you influence the culture of data integration
practices and enterprise data flows and are essential to mentoring
other data professionals. As the Staff Data Engineer II, you are
critical engineer in a continuous delivery team dedicated to
providing integrated data flows, data warehousing and analytic
ecosystem across our Western Alliance Bank business lines. You are
the technical expert in a high-performing centralized team of data
engineers, data analysts and QA engineers. You champion data
quality and discipline in the full data lifecycle. You must
demonstrate strong technical mastery as well as an ability to
collaborate and communicate with both technical team members and
business stakeholders. You partner closely with enterprise
architects to understand and implement solutions based on the
recommended Azure Cloud data architecture and capabilities. You are
required to know and/or learn modern automation and integration
methods and tools, with Cloud-First design patterns, frameworks,
critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Being knowledgeable
and up to date in the data integration and analytics trends in the
industry is a differentiator in your role. The ideal candidate is a
strong technologist with a practical data engineering mindset, is
outcome-focused, and fosters teamwork. This position is ONSITE ONLY
located in either Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, TX, or Columbus, OH.What we
are looking for:
- Implement data engineering solutions that satisfy the full data
lifecycle including efficient technical hygiene and the use of
Azure DevOps for the implementation of the Western Alliance Bank
Regulatory Reporting and Analytics strategy and roadmap.
- Develop ETL and data pipeline capabilities considering how data
is created, transformed, maintained, stored, archived, analyzed,
and shared across Western Alliance Bank and our partners.
- Implement Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines in accordance with
Western Alliance Bank technical standards.
- Implement data governance and data quality controls in all data
solutions in accordance with enterprise standards.
- Apply Test Driven Development methodology to all data solution
design and implementations.
- Implement methods to include unstructured data and big
data.
- Lead the implementation of outcomes, recommendations, and
designs from Data Governance and Enterprise Architecture.
- Actively participate in making data architecture
decisions.
- Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to
gain a working understanding of business requirements and
operational processes.
- Provide technical mentorship to team members and other data
professionals.
- As needed, perform data exploration and data profiling with
tools such as Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud and/or
SPSS.What you need to have:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent
experience in data management and/or data analytics.
- 5+ years' experience with data engineering specifically in
Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) concepts and processes,
enterprise data warehouse capabilities, database principles, and
other related tools and technologies; preferably strong to expert
in Azure Data Factory and/or Databricks.
- 2+ years' experience designing, implementing, and supporting
cloud data solutions; Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure
Data Services, Azure Synapse, Azure Logic Apps, and Azure DevOps
experience preferred.
- Expert level experience with at least one RDBMS and query
language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Spark SQL.
- Experience in conceptual, logical, and physical data
design.
- Experience with design tools as it relates to creating
conceptual architecture diagrams and data flow diagrams such as
Visio, Archimate, Lucid Chart.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with data science and analytics tools such as SAS,
Tableau, PowerBI.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud data management and transformation
platforms or tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Matillion,
etc.
- Experience in Agile, SAFe, and/or Scrum is preferred.
- Experience integrating with data quality, data catalog and data
lineage tools is preferred.
- Certifications within Azure such as Azure Fundamentals, Azure
Data Engineer, Azure Data Scientist, and/or Azure DevOps Engineer
is preferred.
- Banking or financial services industry experience or other
highly regulated industry experience.
- Experience implementing Large Financial Institution (LFI)
Regulatory Reporting data solutions is preferred.Benefits you'll
